The morning started about 7:30 CST. After a little motivation and breakfast we left Robin and Chad’s about 9:00.

Interstate 24 was fairly uneventful. Most normal people pass their time in the car on long road trips by reading, counting specialty vehicles like campers, noting the states that other cars are from or just taking in the scenery. However we are not your typical normal people, we passed the time today by counting dead dear along the road. We counted a total of 22 just in Kentucky. One of the other somewhat odd things we saw today all along the interstate in KY, was a lot all the trees had several broken limbs and split trunks in them. At first we thought maybe a tornado had come through the area, but the distance that this took place was too long. Maybe it was just a series of strong wind storms taking their toll. Any ideas or answers from anyone?

The drive through Illinois and Missouri were not as exciting as KY. Lots of FLAT farmland. St Louis was pretty cool to see, especially the “arch”. We didn’t see much of Kansas City, but we made it here safely. We are staying with Pat and Linda Tierney tonight. They are the parents of our good friend Karen. Thanks Pat and Linda for your sweet hospitality and thanks Karen for setting it up for us. What a money saver!!!

Tomorrow it is off to Rapid City, SD.

As you can see, the technical difficulties have been worked out, I will try now to add pics to the last couple of days.

Moving right along......Bryant suggested the downed limbs, etc. were a product of a severe snowstorm. Maybe??? Sounds like you are enjoying your trip. Missouri would have been a good state to count dead ARMADILLOS! That's how we passed the time to Branson a couple of years ago. We NEVER saw any LIVE armadillos in Missouri, though...Love you - have a great day! Mom and Bryant
ReplyDeleteI agree with Bryant, the fallen trees are probably result of that massive snow/ice-storm KY had not long ago...saw pics on fb, it was bad!
ReplyDeleteAsk Kevin, REALLY, how many of the 22 dead deer were ACTUALLY deer, and how many were "clumps of grass" (which have been known to strongly resemble dead deer-HA,HA,HA!!!)???
It is probably out of season now, but in Alberta they grow beautiful Canola fields. We will let you know as soon as we talk to our friends up there. It was good to see you all!
Happy Trails You 2!
Love,
Robin
You two are just cruising right along! So glad you are keeping us updated on your progress.
ReplyDeleteThe trees were from the ice storm. My sister has pictures that she took while working in Mammoth Cave. I sent a link to them.
ReplyDeleteGood luck and God Bless,
Jonathan
