D-Day!

Well we are off and running!

It started with an early morning run to Wal-Mart for more storage boxes (that we ended unpacking later in the day to fit the contents into small space between the big boxes). The house was a wreck and we ended up with a house guest last night as well. My wonderful devoted sister came to help us finish packing and pack the truck. Thanks to our excellent methods of packing handed down from our Dad we combined our efforts to fit everything we will need for our life in Alaska into the bed of the truck. Because of technical difficulties with the computer these pictures will have to come later. Melissa took about 45 minutes to pack one box of kitchen items, but there was some much stuff stuffed into that box it was amazing. Inside the wondrously packed boxed was my kitchen minute timer. Which hind sight being 20/20 we should have removed the battery, because during the packing of the truck the timer started going off. As of 5:00 PM the timer was still beeping, beeping, beeping, beeping, beeping. . . . you get the point. Our hope and prayer is that the beeping, beeping, beeping, beeping. . . stops before reaching the border of Canada so that it doesn't appear that we have a bomb in the truck. Any beats on how long it takes for the energizer bunny/battery to die?!?!?!

We started the trip by going backwards. We left our home around 5:00 PM this evening and headed to Kingsport. We are spending the evening with Melissa, Bubba and Aunt Libby. We had a terrific dinner of ribs, shrimp, chicken, deviled eggs, chips and dips. Who needs vegetables anyway? Tomorrow we will spend the morning with family, then drive to Nashville to spend more time with other family.

Please pray for a safe journey, that will be problem and headache free. We especially ask for an easy border crossing. Our understanding is that about 1 in 10 cars get pulled over and inspected (emptying ALL contents of the vehicle). If this happens we will be asking for donations for Melissa's plane ticket to the crossing point to help us RE-pack the truck.
